Dinner & Fun

We had such a great weekend here in Milwaukee. I hope you did too! Fortunately, it was a 3 DAY WEEKEND because Tyler had Friday off. So to start it off...I went all out for dinner Thursday night when Ty got home from work. When you have too much time on your hands, its fun to dress up a weeknight meal! (And use those wedding gifts in the meantime :) )
It probably took me longer to set the table then to actually cook the meal! It was a super easy meal, but super delicious. Tyler requested it again this week!
On the menu:
Grilled Salmon
Grilled Parmesan Asparagus
Roasted Potatoes with Rosemary
 Salmon Recipe:
(Makes about 4 servings)
  • 1 1/2 pounds salmon fillet
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/3 cup soy sauce
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • salt and freshly ground black pepper
  1. Season salmon all over with salt and pepper.
  2. In a small bowl start on the marinade by mixing soy sauce, brown sugar, lemon juice, garlic and olive oil, until the sugar is completely dissolved. Coat salmon with the soy sauce mixture, place it in a large casserole dish and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, turning the salmon once.
  3. Preheat grill for cooking over medium heat.
  4. Lightly oil the grill rack. Place salmon on the preheated grill and cook the salmon for about 8 minutes on each side until cooked through.
  5. Remove from grill and serve immediately.

To top it off...Tyler came home with a sweet surprise! (If you are friends with me on have already  seen this.) But I am so excited I shall share it again!

He even knows how to win my heart with Baby's Breath in a vase.
August 31st we are flying home to Knoxville and going to the first UT game in Atlanta. Woohoooo. I miss the Vols up here. Then we will be staying the rest of Labor Day weekend in Knoxville. I AM SO EXCITED TO SEE EVERYONE! All caps was necessary.

Back to the weekend, we decided on Tyler's day off to go to Milwaukee's number one brewery tour: Lakefront Brewery.
Isn't he cute..and still able to to smile despite being so sick of pictures!

We actually got really lucky and hopped on the tour that the owner and founder of the company does once a week!

BONUS: If you look in the bottom right hand will see that little electrical screen that says Eaton on it. That's what Tyler engineers! Kind of. Woo hoo. Represent.

At one point, the owner asked who was visiting from out of town. Of course I raised my hand high. Only for it to be brought down by my smart husband who whispered "Kacey, we aren't tourists we LIVE here now."
I still forget.

That night we met some of our neighbors in Downtown Waukesha. Its so fun to walk there on the weekends for the free concerts! Of course if you know know we ate at Taylor's People's Park. I should probably just call it "the place with the best sweet potato fries that I never get sick of."

It was fun going out with new friends!
Saturday...we actually explored the city of Milwaukee with one of Tyler's friend's from work who is a traveling and food connoisseur. He took us straight to the Comet Cafe. It has won about every food award that it possibly could in Milwaukee. It is also on the Travel channel and  food network frequently. I so wish I got a picture but I did not want to be "that" girl when dining with a brand spanking new friend!

After our scrumptious brunch, we went and walked on Brady Street. It's just the cutest little street with tons of outside restaurants, cafes, and shops.
There are three coleges within two miles of this straight so it is quite hoppin'.

That afternoon, we went to the Milwaukee Air Show. It is a huge event downtown by Lake Michigan where huge fighter jets basically put on a show for everyone. It is on the radio with music and an announcer. I thought of it as Boom's Day but with planes instead of fireworks.

It is such a pretty view!

Afterwards..Ty's coworker took us to an Italian food market downtown. I went a little crazy with all of the fresh pasta and cheese and sauces. Needless to say, we have about four Italian meals to make!

By the time night came....we were exhausted. But it is just so fun exploring a new city! Especially in a city where there is SO much to do. We napped all Saturday night and then had so much energy around midnight that we went to see the new Bourne movie! It was good...but it just doesn't beat Matt Damon.

We hoped to attend a new  church we have been looking at...but instead slept right through because of the crazy late night movie. So I was surprised by my sweeeet husband (still can't get enough of saying that word) with breakfast in bed!
Isn't he great?!

Until next time....and I promise to not go as long so I can make these posts shorter! Thanks for reading and caring and praying for us on this crazy adventure :)
